Correlates of Bisexual Behaviors Among Men who have Sex with Men in El Salvador

Bisexual behaviors may increase transmission pathways of HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) from a higher prevalence group to lower prevalence groups in El Salvador. In 2008, men who have sex with men (MSM) were recruited in San Salvador and San Miguel using respondent driven sampling. Participants were interviewed and tested for HIV and STIs. Sixteen seeds and 797 MSM participated; 34.9% in San Salvador and 58.8% in San Miguel reported bisexual behavior. Bisexual behavior was associated with drug use (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 2.57, 95% CI: 1.305.06) and insertive anal sex (AOR = 5.45, 95% CI: 3.019.87), and inversely associated with having a stable male partner (AOR = 0.47, 95% CI: 0.260.84) and disclosing MSM behavior to family (AOR = 0.41, 95% CI: 0.220.75). Spinbrush Electric Toothbrush May Not Be Safe For Use

A new warning issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), states that certain electric toothbrushes may not be safe for use. On more than one occasion, the battery-powered Arm & Hammer Spinbrush, previously known as the Crest Spinbrush, has been known to break, causing pieces of the toothbrush to injure eyes, and teeth, and even choking. Ali Shumaya, M.P.H., a consumer safety officer at the FDA said:

Early Intervention Holds Hope for Those Who Stutter

Stuttering may seem simple enough. People who stutter cannot get words out properly. They repeat or prolong sounds or syllables, sometimes appearing to physically struggle to speak.

But the problem is much more complex than that, involving factors as disparate as genetics, emotion, brain activity, motor control and language, said Jane Fraser, president of the Stuttering Foundation of America.

“There are so many factors involved in saying one word, it is the most complex thing we do,” Fraser said.
