Yogasthma: Seven Steps to Asthma Control is part of the Yoga Science Box, a classroom curriculum we developed for the San Francisco Unified School District under the auspices of district physical education administrator, Ms. Gloria Siech. It was developed for students at Carver Elementary School where asthma is a huge problem due to the environment. We had just launched the Yoga Science Box program there when the principal asked if there was anything we could do to help the students with asthma.
We knew hatha yoga was beneficial for asthmatics but we were not sure how to apply it to the children with parents’ support and participation since it was going to require some lifestyle changes.

The spring rains have started, and if your family is anything like mine, your kids tried to pull on last years boots, only to find that they have this years feet. Quick! It was a fun, freewheeling conversation in which we talked about diet and health (of course) among other topics and both expressed our disdain for Michael Moore. (Well, okay, Jordan expressed his disdain more than I did. I mean, he reeeeally doesnt like Michael Moore.)
You can listen to part one of the interview here, part two here.
People continue to grow well into their 70s, but they’re not growing taller, they’re growing wider, new research shows.
Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine found that people’s pelvic bones (hip bones) continue to grow long after they reach skeletal maturity. The end result: extra inches at the waistline and many extra pounds on the scale.
“Whether or not they also have an increase in body fat, our findings suggest that pelvic growth may contribute to people becoming wider and having a large waist size as they get older,” said Dr. Laurence E.
