Williamson County gets first high-level trauma center

Residents of Williamson County now have a high-level trauma center that has met national standards, and a second, competing center could receive the designation soon.

Were all very excited about this, said Dr. Neel Ware, trauma medical director at Seton Medical Center Williamson.

Wares hospital and St. Davids Round Rock Medical Center announced two years ago that they were seeking Level II trauma designation to better serve residents of Williamson County and far northern Travis County who have bad injuries or medical emergencies.

State Farm Insurance data: Grandparents safer drivers

The elderly may be safer drivers than thought – a new study found children are less likely to get hurt in a car driven by a grandparent.

The study discovered that the risk of injury for a child in an accident was 50% lower if a grandparent was behind the wheel instead of mom or dad.

Study discovers link between cell phone usage and relationship strength

A project on the dynamics of social networks at the University of Notre Dames Interdisciplinary Center for Network Science and Applications (iCeNSA) has found a link between cell phone usage and relationship strength.

The study, conducted by Notre Dame faculty members Zoltán Toroczkai, Nitesh Chawla, David Hachen, Omar Lizardo and Mark Alber, is a collaborative effort between four departments at the University.

Toroczkai and his students worked on the modeling aspects while Chawla and his group focused mainly on data mining and prediction.
