IRVINE, Calif. — Biolase Technology has been issued two new patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for laser eye technologies, the company announced in a press release.
Both patents are included under the “Methods for Treating Eye Conditions” family, in which Biolase holds six other U.S. patents.
Patent No. 7,967,017 has 29 claims, including a new strategy for determining optimal treatment zones for presbyopia.
Patent No. 7,909,040 includes 10 claims that relate to the shape of the laser beam and the ablative patterns used for treating presbyopia.
“These new patents significantly enhance our [intellectual property] position in ophthalmology, a market segment that we are aggressively pursuing,” Federico Pignatelli, chairman and CEO of Biolase, said in the release.
